In 2013, Sylvia Montero was named one of fourteen Women Shaping History by Education Update Magazine. In 2004 she was recognized as the “Most Outstanding Hispanic Woman in Business” by the New York State Assembly Hispanic Task Force.
Sylvia capped a 30 plus year in Human Resources with her appointment to the highest HR position at Pfizer Inc, the largest pharmaceutical company in the world and a Fortune 100 company.
In March, 2011, she published her book, Make It Your Business: Dare to Climb the Ladder of Leadership, a memoir with a treasure of learnings about personal and business success. She published the Spanish version, Tu exito esta a tu alcance, in June of 2012. Both are available through Amazon.com, hard copy and electronically.
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Lower East Side of New York City, Sylvia describes her story from desperate poverty to the highest echelons of the corporate ladder, a story of tenacity and optimism in the face of major setbacks, boosted by great parents and mentors.
She’s a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University and Queens College, City University of New York.
Sylvia is former President of the Board of The Grand Street Settlement (2012-2016), a community-based, multi- ethnic, multi-generational human service organization in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and Brooklyn, to which she donates all proceeds from the sale of her book.
She retired in 2007 to another adventure. After 18 years of courtship, she married her best friend, O.B. They sold their respective homes – 1200 miles apart – and settled in northwest New Jersey where they are active in their parish.
Sylvia treasures her time with her son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.
