Community Rally Kicks Off Centennial

NEW YORK, NY On Saturday, September 26th, 100 days before its 100th year, Grand St. Settlement will throw a celebration to bring together hundreds of New Yorkers in the name of jump-starting the changes they want to see in communities across New York City.

Beginning at 1PM and ending at 4PM, and located on Pitt street between Rivington and Stanton Streets, the block-party style event is free and open to the community, with games, food, and entertainment for the whole family.

Victor Rasuk, board member and actor who was a youth participant at Grand St. Settlement and whose credits include How to Make It in America and Lords of Dogtown, will serve as special emcee. He will present #JumpstartChange Awards to 15 outstanding members of the community in recognition of their dedication to empowering, supporting and advocating for fellow New Yorkers.

The day marks the launch of 100 Ways to #JumpstartChange, Grand St. Settlement’s call to action to inspire New Yorkers to start changes big and small to make our communities and city better. Over the course of the afternoon, guests can jump into hands-on service projects to start making a difference by packing Fly Bags for LGBTQ youth and planting indoor gardens for seniors.

Throughout the year’s centennial celebrations, volunteers, teams, community partners, and program participants will have opportunities to lead or join the Grand St. Settlement team in community initiatives and service projects.
