Grand St. Settlement to Host Service Project in Celebration of Family Volunteer Day

NEW YORK, NY On Saturday, November 21st, Grand St. Settlement will join Disney Friends for Change and generationOn to engage families in acts of service in celebration of Family Volunteer Day.  For 25 years, Family Volunteer Day has been held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving to “kick-off” the holiday season with giving and service.

Grand St. Settlement will host a “Giving Back Through Art” event with Free Arts NYC, where families and individuals will gather together to create thoughtful cards and holiday-themed decorations to send to Bowery Mission, a Lower East Side homeless shelter, as well as other local shelters. Bowery Mission serves more than 1,000 men, women, and children every day. This project will truly help warm up neighbors in need with kind words during the cold, winter season.

All community members are welcome to take part in this special event, which will be held at Grand St. Settlement’s Beacon Community Center located at 145 Stanton Street in the Lower East Side. The event will take place from 11am to 2pm and include a Thanksgiving meal as well as the opportunity to join staff in walking to local shelters with cards and decorations.
